Salute to Franz Xaver

Franz Xaver is an artist, engaging in electronic circuitry, mathematical cosmos and radio transmission. In his belief that “Free opinion needs free media and the medium as an massage for our soul”, he has been pursuing new art contexts for digital media. He founded info-lab, and worked on the third nature of complex information & interference of the unknown, consistently testing the limits of shortwave and satellite transmission in all ranges. He considers that the electromagnetic realm – waves, vibration and fields are forms of sculpture and can be made sensorially perceptible. He builds antennas as haptic sculptures when wavelength and the speed of light become artistic media. Since 2008, Franz Xaver works in Stadtwerkstatt Linz. Franz Xaver and Shu Lea Cheang started Radiotopia (http://radiotopia.stwst.at) in 2021 and kept the activities going every year to connect the global radio communities.
On this day 19.09. 2026, Franz Xaver is bidding farewell, shooting himself off to the infinite EM fields. Node by node, we build radiotopia into radiotopias; note by note, we salute to the good health of Franz Xaver. We are asking for your sounds (live or pre-recorded of any duration) to be part of the 12 hour radio streams on September 19, 2026 from 12pm to midnight (CET).
